About this deal

Rote learning is often frowned upon in modern education - understandably in most subjects - however with elementary mathematics some rote learning is essential.

In addition to the maths hub, Third Space Learning’s one-to-one online tuition is a great resource to help those students who need a little extra support in maths. Catered to each individual child’s needs we aim to build pupils’ confidence and fluency in maths. Fractions in Year 2 will often be taught in terms of physical ‘sharing’ of items such as cake or pizza. Teaching resources can include paper plates cut into fractions. Manipulatives will also be used to look at ‘sharing’ out a number of items. Column Subtraction Worksheets Column Subtraction Level 1, Column Subtraction Level 2, Column Subtraction Level 3, Column Subtraction Level 4, Column Subtraction Level 5, Column Subtraction Level 6 This one looks even harder than the others, but no matter how large the numbers involved, you can still break the calculation down in to simple chunks. But first, let's understand why completing mental calculations is vital for young learners. Why is mental calculation important? Try out our interactive Addition by Partitioning, Column Addition, and Column Subtraction tutorials.

Some people find it easier to think of the decimal point moving, rather than the digits moving. In the example above, the decimal point stays in the same place and all of the digits shift to the left. Now you have replaced the difficult multiplication with two simple multiplications and a subtraction: Times Tables Worksheets 1 x Table, 2 x Table, Division Times Table - 2, Division and Multiplication Mix - 2, 0,1,2 x Table, 10 x Table, Division Times Table - 10, Division and Multiplication Mix - 10, 5 x Table, Division Times Table - 5, Division and Multiplication Mix - 5, 2,5,10 x Table, Division Times Table - 2,5,10, 11 x Table, Division Times Table - 11, Division and Multiplication Mix - 11, 3 x Table, Division Times Table - 3, Division and Multiplication Mix - 3, 4 x Table, Division Times Table - 4, Division and Multiplication Mix - 4, 8 x Table, Division Times Table - 8, Division and Multiplication Mix - 8, 6 x Table, Division Times Table - 6, Division and Multiplication Mix - 6, 4,6,8 x Table, Division Times Table - 4,6,8, 9 x Table, Division Times Table - 9, Division and Multiplication Mix - 9, 7 x Table, Division Times Table - 7, Division and Multiplication Mix - 7, 6,7,8,9 x Table, Division Times Table - 6,7,8,9, 12 x Table, Division Times Table - 12, Division and Multiplication Mix - 12, 1-12 Times Tables, Division Times Tables 1-12I'd rather have consolidation homework on one topic sent home..with an explanation of context and methodology, basic concepts to be understood and a couple of more stretching questions for kids who get that particular topic and need more challenge...as optional. Leave the assessments and testing for school classroom time. Imagine sending home reading comprehension tests without the book they are based on as English homework. You couldn't support your child, aged 6yrs old, with their English homework. That's how I feel about thus series as homework. Painful. This gets sent home for homework once a week. It's seen by the children as a test? Which it is. Swapping through addition, subtraction, fractions, giving change, and all sorts in the same homework sitting is not consolidation of what's been taught that week in class. As parents we don't know what's been taught that week or the week before, or the approaches used, methodologies taught..nothing. We have no text book to consult with the work programme in it either. Testing children repeatedly, sometimes on topics they haven't even covered yet leaves the children deflated and makes homework frustrating. Are the books meant to be used this way? Short Multiplication Worksheets Short Multiplication x 2, Short Multiplication x 3, Short Multiplication x 4, Short Multiplication x 5, Short Multiplication x 6, Short Multiplication x 7, Short Multiplication x 8, Short Multiplication x 9 Missing Number Problems Worksheets Missing Number Addition, Missing Number Subtraction, Missing Number Multiplication, Missing Number Division Specifically, Year 2 pupils are expected to “recall and use multiplication and division facts for the 2, 5 and 10 multiplication tables” and “recall and use addition and subtraction facts to 20 fluently, and derive and use related facts up to 100”. Although, mental maths is not simply about recalling facts, but is focused on the understanding of the workings out required, and being able to apply known facts appropriately.
